Even before he was a Counsellor, Dean has always wanted to make a positive difference in people’s lives. A passionate people-person, Dean’s devotion towards a client’s recovery is most clearly evidenced in his ability to form authentic rapport with people from all walks of life. During his time within the field of addiction recovery and mental health, Dean has conducted private counselling, provided education about Alcohol and Other Drugs, and facilitated group therapy.
Nurturing a long-held desire to serve people in the provision of support and counselling, Dean completed a Certificate IV in Mental Health, which further served to reinforce his stated aim of helping people in addiction recovery. Without losing sight of a client’s individual goals, Dean’s approach to counselling is informed by the latest available evidence in the field of addiction treatment. He cites a comprehensive, biopsychosocial approach to treatment options and interventions – an approach that encompasses all aspects of a person’s life that may contribute towards a battle with addiction.
With a background in IT and interests including aviation and model airplanes, Dean brings his own experience with active addiction to the role at HARP. The empathy that comes from having walked a similar path has given Dean the compassion and leadership that is necessary to light the way forwards out of the dark places in which people can lose themselves.
Dean holds a firm belief that addiction recovery ought to be person-centred, and that no single treatment option is appropriate for everyone.
"Making the decision to seek treatment is often the biggest step someone can take to a truly fulfilling life. Being a proud member of the HARP team has certainly been an amazing experience. Friendly staff, that not only REALLY listen to clients, but also know what they are facing through real lived experience. They form a wealth of knowledge and caring that you won’t find anywhere else."
